Sean Dorsey Dance new work BOYS IN TROUBLE is currently on a 20-city international tour supported by the NEA and NDP. BOYS IN TROUBLE unpacks contemporary American masculinity with unflinching honesty and from unapologetically trans and queer perspectives. Dorsey created the work after leading community residencies engaging trans, queer and masculine-of-center people across the US.
Dorsey’s previous work THE MISSING GENERATION is also on a 20-city US tour. THE MISSING GENERATION gives voice to LGBTQ longtime survivors of the early AIDS epidemic. Dorsey created the work after recording 75 hours of oral history interviews with longtime survivors; these voices and remarkable real-life stories are featured in the show’s award-winning soundscore.
Dorsey is also the founder and Artistic Director of Fresh Meat Productions. Now in its 17th season, Fresh Meat Productions invests in the creative expression and cultural leadership of transgender and gender-nonconforming (GNC) communities. Fresh Meat’s programs include the annual FRESH MEAT FESTIVAL of transgender and queer performance, Sean Dorsey Dance’s local and touring performances, FRESH WORK! Commissions for trans/GNC/queer artists of color, community residencies, and TRANSform Dance – a national advocacy program advancing Trans Equity in dance. As Artistic Director of Fresh Meat Productions, Dorsey has presented and commissioned more than 500 trans/GNC/queer artists since 2002, over two-thirds of whom are artists of color.
