Ruth Juliet Wikler founded Boom Arts in Portland, Oregon, in 2012 and has curated and produced its seven performance seasons to date, introducing Portlanders to artists like Kristina Wong, Soomi Kim, Dahlak Brathwaite, Teatro Línea de Sombra (Mexico), Penny Arcade, Adrienne Truscott, and playwrights Deborah Asiimwe (Uganda), Anupama Chandrasekhar (India), and Guillermo Calderón (Chile). Under her leadership, Boom Arts’ work to advance equity in the arts in Portland has been recognized twice with AGE (Advance Gender Equity in the Arts) Awards in 2017 & 2018. Ruth holds an MA in Theatre from Hunter, an NVQ in Contemporary Circus and Physical Theatre from Circomedia, and a BA from Barnard. Before moving West, Ruth worked with New York City organizations including the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center (CUNY Graduate Center) and Arts International and founded and directed a contemporary circus troupe. She is currently an APAP Leadership Fellow and, in addition to her work with Boom Arts, consults on artistic programming and partnership development for La Tohu and Montréal Complètement Cirque Festival in Montréal.
