Chuck began his career at Hancher in 1985 as Business Manager of Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa. He was a student at the University when Hancher opened so his passion for Hancher began in 1972. He became Executive Director in 2002. Chuck has led many major projects during his time at Hancher, including a statewide tour of the Joffrey Ballet in 2007 with free outdoor performances as a celebration of Hancher’s 35th anniversary. The original Hancher was destroyed by a major flood in 2008, and for eight years Chuck and his staff kept the Hancher program alive through community and statewide partnerships and collaborations. He was also on the project team that designed and built a new Hancher which opened in 2016. He also led the development efforts in raising private and corporate funds for the building project. In past years, Chuck served on the Association of Performing Arts Professionals Board of Directors, and during most of that time he was Treasurer of the Board.
